A night in Surabaya is not enough. I should stay longer than it is just one night. I will be back one day to stay longer. I had financial issues after the Covid-19 (everybody has). Hence, I didn’t arrange my accommodation very well. However, I made it to Surabaya and stayed there. I checked into the hotel room. Then I look for my dinner. And I ate Soto Ayam (chicken soup). I love local Soto Ayam and chilly. It was delicious. When it is raining, it is good to have a chicken soup. I enjoyed my night alone in Surabaya. Have a coffee and think about the next day.

Ready to Go to South Kalimantan

I woke up at 09.00. I made morning coffee. I checked all my belongings. And the ticket that I bought online at the Dharma Lautan Applications. It is time to go and leave the hotel for the harbor at 11:00 a.m. It took just 15 minutes by motorbike. And my ship will leave Surabaya harbor to Banjarmasin at 13.00. I had plenty of time enjoying the Tanjung Perak Harbor. I can mingle with other passengers. Who is going the same route to Banjarmasin? Surabaya harbor is well known as Tanjung Perak harbor. Tanjung Perak is one of the most busier harbors for trading in Indonesia. No wonder it has a lot of ship cargo from anywhere. Furthermore, my ship is leaving Tanjung Perak at 1 p.m. It was exciting. And I felt so nervous. I am running out of the money. And the way to go is still longer.

Banjarmasin Port to Palangkaraya Indonesia Inter Island Journeys

By 09.00, we arrived at Banjarmasin port. It took us an hour to get out of the ship. There were a lot of trucks, cars and motorbikes. I enjoyed seeing the ship crews helping the vehicle out of the ship. Then, we got down to the lower deck where my motorbike parked well. Surabaya to Banjarmasin is the most busier Indonesia Inter Island Journeys. The cargo ship has a schedule to Surabaya every day. It was about 20 hours journey. I enjoyed being on the ship. It is clean, full air con and the canteen is open 24 hours. It was a pleasant journey from Lombok Island to Surabaya and Banjarmasin. As I saw on the Google map, the distance from Port Banjarmasin to Palangkaraya City is about 196 Km. I assume it is 6 – 7 hours to get to Palangkaraya by stopover. I will pass Kuala Kapuas Regency. Kuala Kapuas is my grandfather’s hometown. But I will not stop overnight. I need to drive straight to Palangkaraya. I am just a stopover for meals and coffee at food stalls. Banjarmasin port to Kuala Kapuas takes about two and a half hours. And this city is covered by a river. It would be nice resting along the river bank to see the local boat and a cup of coffee. It is also interesting to try local cakes like Bingka, ontok-ontok, etc. However, This Indonesia Inter Island Journeys is so impressive. You should try and experience how it impresses you.

This journey started from Lombok, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, and Palangkaraya. It will end in Kumai City and then cross to Surabaya again.

Central Kalimantan is in the center of Kalimantan Island. This province has no seaport. Even though I am originally from Kalimantan, I feel like a stranger in my hometown. It is no wonder I left Kalimantan in 1984. It was at my age 13 years old.
